Week 7 Dr. Poon results

Hello friends,
Today marks the completion of my 7th week on Dr. Poon's Metabolic diet.  I do not have much to report.  I have lost another pound from last week.  Today I weighed in on my scale at 175.8.  The progress is SLOW but overall I am still very pleased.  I mean what is not to celebrate?  7 weeks ago I was 15 lbs heavier, my clothes fit poorly and I was unhappy with my appearance.  Today, clothes are fitting better, I'm feeling lighter and although I'll probably NEVER truly be happy with my appearance... I know I am looking better than I did.
A while back I purchased the carrot muffin mix in the orange bag at the Low Carb Grocery.  I finally got around to making these muffins.  They are terrible!! LOL.  For the most part I have enjoyed the low carb options that I have purchased thus far.  These muffins are the exception.  Save your money.
I really thought that I would be happy once I was in the 170s, but truthfully, now that I am, I CANNOT wait to be in the 160s!  I am sure once I am there, it will all be about being in the 150s... but for now bring on 169!  At the rate I am going I probably won't be there until September.  I would love to have another week where I lose 8 lbs, like I did week one.  It obviously can be done.  Maybe this will be the week where my metabolism kicks in and melts the next 5lbs off.  Having said that, I really should make a stronger effort to exercise.
Well, that's it for this week's blog.  Feel free to comment below on how your own personal journey is going.

Dr Poon Diet - Follow up Visit Number Two

Hello!
I went back to the Dr Poon office this morning.  I was feeling a little nervous, because as I mentioned several times, I was on holidays at an all inclusive resort last week.
I'm pleased to say my nerves were for nothing.  I was down 2.4 lbs since my last visit.

My progress so far looks like this:

                June 6               June 26        July 17
Weight     188                     178              175.6
BMI         32.4                     30.6             30.1
Fat%        40.1                     37.6             38.6
Fat Mass  75.6                     67.0             67.8
TBW        82.5                     81.5             79.0

(my weight on my scale this a.m 177.4)

So, I have not lost in body fat.  But I have lost some water weight.  Dr Poon did mention that I have a lot of water to lose.  And considering my honeymoon last week, I am pleased with these results.  In fact, I'm very proud of myself for getting back on track and quickly losing the weight gained on holidays.  How many times in the past did I go on holidays, gain weight, and do nothing about it when I got home....

I dropped by the Ontario Nutrition Store in Dr Poon's office.  I bought some of the EZ Gourmet chocolate chip cookies and Lilly's chocolate macaroons.  Both are very good.  I also bought a box of the chocolate caramel pretzel snacks.  Those are delicious!!  This time, I also picked up some cheddar cheese.  I have not yet tried it.

My husband and I also had another visit to the fertility clinic yesterday.  **SIGH** Wish some good news would fall into my lap.  At least I have my weight loss ourney to put my focus on.

Here's to staying the course!

Sunday, 14 July 2013

Hola!
It's Sunday night.  I'm lying in bed.  My husband returns to work tonight, bringing our holidays to an end.  We have had a wonderful 2 weeks of vacation together.  As I mentioned, our second week of holidays were spent honeymooning in Cuba!  I will admit up front that I FAILED to stay on track while on vacation.  I was certain upon leaving that I would not cheat.  I cheated.  A LOT.  Having said that, I did eat and drink much more mindfully than I would have had I not been on the Dr Poon diet.
On other vacations with my husband, I would typically have a (virgin) Pina Coloda in my hand ALL day.  On this vacation I had 1-2 per day.  I also had a glass of red wine with most of my dinners.  Other cheats included a hand full of dinner rolls with butter.
I did manage to avoid all starchy side dishes such as potatoes, rice and pasta.  However, dessert was another story...
When all is said and done I gained a total of 4 lbs while on vacation.  We returned home Friday morning.  I immediately recommitted to my weight loss goals and Dr. Poon's diet and I am pleased to say that this morning (Sunday) I weighed in at 179.8 which is where I was, more or less, before we left.
I do wish that I had had the will power to not cheat on vacation.  I tried very hard to set myself up for success by taking calorie free and low carb drink mixes with me.  I know that they helped to reduce the amount of 'regular' drinks I would have otherwise had.
I'm trying to think what I would do differently if I were to go on vacation again.  I would still take the drink mixes with me.  I would try to exercise more there.  We did take walks, but they were more like 'strolls'  because of the heat.  I packed Walden Farms salad dressing, and EZ Gourmet low carb cookies.  Again, they probably reduced the number of bad choices I made, but unfortunately they did not prevent me from eating things I shouldn't.
So anyways, vacation was wonderful.  Yes, I cheated.  But it isn't the end of the world.  I am back on track and recommitted.  I'm also very proud of myself for losing what I gained while I was away.
Hopefully this week will be very successful!

Dr poon Diet - Week 4

Good Morning,
I'm really not sure where to begin.  I have not lost any weight this week.  On the other hand, I have not gained.  My weight this morning (on my home scale) is 180.0 lbs.
I would really like to be losing, but at the same time, I am not really disappointed with my progress.  I've lost 10+ lbs this month.  And for that, I am very proud.  I see a big difference in my body shape, and the way that my clothes fit.  Also, many people have made comments about my success.
Perhaps the best thing, is that I maintain my motivation and I know that I can keep going and that I will see more success down the road.
As I mentioned in my last post, my husband is now on holidays.  This past week we have had 3 of my step-children staying with us.  We spent most of the week at a cottage.  There have certainly been challenges.  For one thing, it can be very stressful at times because they are not my kids.  So when they behave inappropriately or are fighting amongst themselves, I often feel helpless.  It's also stressful to spend time with someone else's kids when you are desperate for your own.
We celebrated my step-daughter's birthday at the cottage.  My husband picked up a beautiful chocolate cake with chocolate icing.  It looked delicious.  Still, I was not tempted.
Today, my husband and I leave on our honeymoon.  We are going to Cuba for 1 week.  I am determined to keep on track.  I know I will be able to eat properly down there.  The challenge will be the bar.  I am not a big drinker.  In fact, I typically prefer 'virgin' versions -... I bought several bottles of sugar free drink mixes to take a long with me.  I am hoping that this will keep on track.  For those who don't know, there are many varieties of sugar free drink mixes such as, Appletini, mojito, cosmopolitan, and even low carb Pina Colada.  Hopefully this is going to keep me on track.
I plan to do lots of swimming and walking along the beach.  Fingers crossed that I maintain the resolve to behave myself.
Once holidays are over, I really want to begin to incorporate more exercise into my day.  I am determined to lose weight.  And I am ready to step up my efforts.
Please wish me luck in Cuba!
